Department of chemistry, Govt College of Arts, Science and Commerce Khandola Marcela-Goa, organized a one day workshop on “Safety in Laboratory” in collaboration with Syngenta, India on 30th April 2016. The workshop was organized with an aim of educating the Teachers, Laboratory staff and students on the safety to be followed while working in laboratories.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by key note address by Dr.Kamlesh Pai Fondekar. Dr. Fondekar efficiently highlighted the importance of creating a safe working environment in the laboratory.

The other spekears for the day were, Ms Deepa Somannthan, Syngenta India limited, who enlightened the audience on Chemical management in the laboratories. Dr. Parag Sawant equipped the participants for handling medical emergencies in the laboratory. Mr. Truptesh Naik along with his team from Directorate of Fire and Emergency service Panaji gave a hand on experience and demonstration on how to tackle fire emergencies with the help of Mr. Satyawan Gawas.

Shri Nitin Raikar, Deputy Director of Directorate of Fire and Emergency services, Panaji, Goa was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Mr. Nitin Raikar made the audience aware of the importance of safe working environment in lab as well as in day to day life and also the role of Directorate of Fire and Emergency services in disaster management.
The workshop was attended by around 100 participants from 25 Institutions (colleges, Higher Secondary’s and schools) all over Goa.
